Privacy Notice
Last updated: 22 August 2026
This page explains, in plain terms, what this tool does with data. It is not a substitute for legal advice, if you plan to run this beyond a personal or internal tool, have it reviewed properly before relying on it.
What this tool does
You enter one or more Letterboxd usernames. The server fetches those accounts' public watchlist pages from letterboxd.com, compares them, and shows films they have in common (or, with one username, a random shuffle of that person's own watchlist). It also fetches public film pages to show a poster, genre, rating and runtime.
What we collect
- The usernames you type in. These are sent to our server to look up public Letterboxd data. They are not logged to a file or database.
- Basic usage analytics. We use Google Analytics and Vercel Analytics to see how many people use the tool and which features they click (for example, "compare" or "add a friend"). This is aggregate usage data for our own understanding of whether the tool is useful, not for advertising, and not sold or shared with anyone. Google Analytics sets cookies to do this; you can decline them via the cookie banner shown on your first visit.
- Nothing else. We don't ask for your name, email, or account credentials, and we don't use ad trackers.
What we don't do
- We don't create accounts, and there's no login.
- We don't persist any Letterboxd lookup data to disk or a database. Results and any cached lookups (e.g. avatar previews) live only in server memory and are cleared whenever the server restarts.
- We don't set any cookies of our own, only the ones Google Analytics sets if you accept the cookie banner.
- We don't share, sell, or transmit anything to a third party for advertising purposes.
About the Letterboxd data itself
A Letterboxd username, and the films on that person's watchlist, can be personal data about an identifiable individual, even though it's published publicly by that person on their own Letterboxd profile. This tool only reads data a user has chosen to make public on Letterboxd, and only for the purpose the person using this tool intends (comparing watchlists to decide what to watch). It does not aggregate, retain, or resell that data. If you are the subject of a Letterboxd profile and have concerns about it being looked up here, note that this tool has no stored record of any lookup once the server restarts, there is nothing to request deletion of.
Third parties
This tool calls letterboxd.com on your behalf to fetch public pages. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or officially connected to Letterboxd in any way. We also use Vercel Analytics (cookieless) and Google Analytics (uses cookies, shown via the consent banner) to understand usage of this tool.
Your rights
Since no personal data is stored beyond the lifetime of a single request/server session, there is generally nothing on file to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions about how this tool works, reach out to whoever operates the instance you're using.
